In 1972 Lars,at the mere age of 22, started his carpet-career as a management-trainée and apprentice in the carpet department of the Oslo department-store Steen & Strøm. This company was established in 1797, and had up to about 1980 a leading role in the trade with fine old carpets in Norway.They imported goods on their own sailships from the orient up to 1894 and had traded in carpets since about 1875.
This department was led by several carpet-experts who became local legends with great knowledge and experience in their field.
Though he had started on a medical study a few years prior to this, Lars took an interest in this field,seeing that he had a rare oppotunity to acquire knowledge in this obscure science, surrounded by carpets, experts to ask, and a abundant
collection of literature.
In fact the right ingredients to learn.
Here, Lars is joyned by his eldest daughter Line.
She has been with the company since 1998.
After only a few years, Lars was employed in another company. In the early eighties he founded a businness of his own. Thanks to a prosperous market and hard work, the success was immediate.
Lars established his company ruled by a very severe policy; Never to sell anything but really good carpets and never let his clients down by false sales or phony discounts.
From the very start Lars had his heart with village and nomadic carpets. This is still visible in the company's collection, although the number of new, high standard carpets are increasing in number, topped by the Mir-Collection.
Since 1999, he has been developing the Chakra-Collection, custom-made carpets with open designs and light colours, made in Nepal.
The custom production of Aubussons have also been increasing and very successfull over the last few years.
Line, his oldest daughter, has been with the company since 1998 and has a background in studies of weaving, art and anthropology.
Lars has been serving three periods as President of the Norwegian Association of the Art- & Antiquedealers, is still a member and also a member of Cinoa
